Aaaaah, so relaxing, especially when combined with aromatherapy. To make the bubbles, I use a no-rinse detergent for delicate fabrics – Eucalan or Soak. There may be other brands, but these are the only two I know.
I can’t say that I prefer one to the other. Eucalan is sort of syrupy and yellowish, whereas Soak is thinner and clear. Both are available in various lovely scents. The Eucalan I have has a very mild lavender scent. My Soak favourite is Lacey, a subtle flowery scent that is harder to pinpoint.
Only a teaspoon of detergent is needed, so a bottle lasts forever. Both also come in small trial packages, that are ideal not only to try out the products, but also to tuck in with a knitted gift.
Need an explanation on spin dry – do you mean putting it in the washing machine and put it on spin? That’s what I would do, but have never done it. I really like the idea of putting the hat on the end of the ironing board – never thought of that nor did I think of steaming it after it’s spa bath. For hats they get a bath, then press out as much water as I can, jelly roll them in a towel and then I stand on the jelly rolled towel to get the rest of the water out and then I lay the hat on the counter to dry – will shape it if need be but usually it doesn’t need any shaping. Scarves get the same treatment except I do pin them so that they will have a stretch edge and also to stretch them out a bit.
Thank you for your questions. About spin drying: I have a separate spin dryer that does the same thing as the spin cycle on a washing machine. The only difference is that it can be stopped at any given moment, so that I can spin dry things for just as long or short as I think is best. I’m not sure about using the washing machine for this. Maybe it will spin dry for too long? Your method with the rolled towel is fine, too. I agree that most hats can just be left to dry, but this one needed a special treatment because it was knit in a rib stitch that bunches up terribly. The same goes for the scarf. Just pinning it out with a few pins wouldn’t have worked to stretch it out widthwise. I hope this is a better explanation of why I did what I did?
Hi Marijke,
although I like knitting very much and startet out knitting as a teenager I seem to be able to learn a lot on this Blog. I didn‘t know there were leave in detergents and it is a good idea to use them. You can see that they make quite a difference.
I would like to know weather you would share the recipe for the new year waffles? I own a waffleiron for thin wafers, but I can‘t find and good recipes.
Greetings Wally
I often have no idea what my readers do or don’t know, and it is so good to hear that there are some new things for you here. I’ll keep the recipe in mind for a future blog post.
